Death Alive
The Dutch Death Tribute “Death Alive” is a progressive Death tribute band dedicated to
preserving and celebrating the legacy of one of metal’s most innovative and influential forces.
While honoring Death’s entire discography, Death Alive places a special emphasis on the band’s later, forward-thinking work, where technical precision, progressive structures, and emotional
depth shaped the boundaries of extreme metal.
Formed by four musicians with diverse backgrounds and a shared admiration for Chuck Schuldiner’s artistic evolution, Death Alive captures the dynamic journey from Death’s early raw aggression to the sophisticated, melodic, and experimental soundscapes found on Human,
Individual Thought Patterns, Symbolic, and The Sound of Perseverance. Their performances
deliver more than faithful renditions: they recreate the spirit of growth, exploration, and
fearlessness that defined Death’s most groundbreaking work.
With rich musicianship, immersive atmosphere, and a deep respect for metal history, Death
Alive brings all the revolutionary songs back to the stage with both authenticity and renewed
energy.
Danny Mandanno — Bass & Vocals
Danny anchors Death Alive with a commanding presence, handling both the bass duties and the
raw, powerful vocals. His playing honors the complex and often underrated bass contributions
found in Death’s catalog, while his vocal style captures the intensity and clarity needed to
deliver Schuldiner’s message. Danny provides both the weight and the depth at the heart of the
band’s sound.
Roland van der Kruk — Drums
Roland’s drum sound was shaped by music styles from all over the world, with influences from
India, Africa and South America mixed together into both metal and jazz. His fluid touch,
dynamic phrasing, and technical finesse allow him to honor the legendary complexity of Chucks
rhythmic vision. By adding subtle, jazz-influenced details, he makes Death Alive’s sound fresh,
breathing, and musically rich, honoring the legendry work of drummers as Sean Reinert, Gene Hoglan and Richard Christy.
Ahmad Al Refai — Guitar
Ahmad brings a soaring, melodic dimension to Death Alive’s twin-guitar sound. By blending
technical speed with expressive phrasing, he channels the spirit of Death’s impressive lead
guitar work: fluid runs, harmonized lines, and emotional depth. His ability to switch between the
heaviest riff and blistering leads makes him a perfect counterpart in recreating the intricate
dual-guitar landscapes of albums like Symbolic and The Sound of Perseverance.
Ronald Versluis — Guitar
A driving rhythmic force in the band, Ronald delivers the heaviest riffing, shifting time
signatures, and expressive tight rhythmic guitar work that define Death’s progressive era. Known
for his work in Subspectral, he brings a refined sense of structure, atmosphere, and melodic
storytelling in his heavy playing that combines precision with emotional depth a perfect match
for Death’s riff oriented sound, where technicality and emotion meet.
